SEO Tricks That Don’t Work Anymore In 2018

SEO is always changing because Google is always on their toes when it comes to being the best search engine on the planet. They always look out for the welfare of their users and aim to give them the best experience whenever they use Google.

We have entered into a new age in doing SEO, mobile is on the rise and using artificial intelligence is now being integrated into SEO strategies.

SEO experts need to be alert whenever a new update is going to be launched because this may mean having to adjust their Google SEO tips for their clients once more. Giving outdated advice can be a disaster in an SEO campaign. There are SEO tactics that don’t work anymore and you should not waste time, money and effort in doing them.

  1. Keyword Stuffing

This was an old-school tactic that used to work back in the day. A webpage will be loaded with a lot of keywords so that Google rankings can be manipulated. A keyword is repeated in a sentence which makes the content sound funny and the obvious goal is to rank higher. Some will even go to the extent of placing similar keywords in titles, subheads, and paragraphs. They use bold text or make them into text links. This is where Google Panda comes in and treats this as spam and penalizes your website.

  1. Creating Pages For Similar Keyword Terms

Having a lot of pages that have keywords that are closely related are frowned upon by Google. An example would be coming up with separate pages for an auto loan, auto loan service and auto loan provider. This used to work, but now Google wants them placed in a single comprehensive page that deals with “auto loans.”

  1. Using Old Link Building Tactics

There are old ways of building links that don’t work anymore. Gone are the days when manipulation can be used to build links for your website. The Penguin update can zero in on links that are built from spam and irrelevant sites. You can’t pay for links and come up with link exchanges for free stuff. Avoid link article directories and link farms that provide low quality and irrelevant links that will only get your website penalized.

  1. Creating Mediocre Content

In the past, it was about how many articles you can publish and how often you can publish them. This led to abuse by some bloggers and websites. There was a lot of duplicates and low-quality content being circulated in order to comply with the old ranking signal before.  Poor content websites are going to be penalized by the Panda update.

Article spinning or coming up with a rehash of your old articles was a tactic used in the old SEO era. Automated content generation was widely practiced before.

Content should be fresh, useful and informative. This is the type of content that users love. Content development is one of the ways to attract organic traffic to your website.

There are also SEO experts who think that short below 300-word content is still the way to go. This is not the case anymore, top ranking pages are now having a 1,800 word average of content. It looks like the longer the content the better with the new SEO.

You don’t need to stuff your titles with keywords anymore. This used to be mandatory in the past, but it is now deemed unnecessary. Strong worded and attractive titles are now the trend in this era of high-quality content.

  1. Guest Blogging

Bloggers used to jump on every guest blogging opportunity out there. They did not mind if they were producing good or bad content. Again, the shift to high-quality content applies here. One has to think twice before doing a guest blog for other websites.  As long as you have killer content that will surely make an impact, then there is no problem with a guest blog here and there.
